“An all-star ensemble of beloved Disney Animation characters come together in ‘Once Upon a Studio’ for a joyful, entertaining and emotional reunion as they assemble for a spectacular group photo to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary.”

We did not start this marathon because it was Disney’s 100th year.

I didn’t even know that was a thing until about two months ago, or if I did I completely forgot about it.

We started it because Bob and I love Disney. Because some of our most poignant childhood memories can be connected to a Disney property. Because in many ways, Disney has become a part of our families, our past, and the future we hope to build with our children. It’s true that Disney is a megacorporation, absorbing all in its wake, but it is so much more than that.

Disney is the princess you dream of being, the happily ever after you strive to achieve. It’s your parents, yours, and your child’s favorite movie. It’s when your parents sat you down to show you Cinderella, and then you sit your child down to show them The Little Mermaid. It’s a trip to a park where you can be young again. It’s a mouse whistling on a steam boat. It’s live action films made for television and superhero blockbusters. It’s animated classics about two dogs falling in love and a robot who just wants to heal what hurts. It’s toys that come to life when you’re not looking, and a little lonely robot just looking for meaning and love.

Disney has made us laugh, cry, and brought us closer together for a century.

I’m not ashamed to admit that I was sobbing like a child by the end of this touching tribute to a century of magic, and even Bob shed a tear as Robin Williams’ voice appeared as Genie.

When we started this marathon, we could not have predicted how much it would come to mean to us. We could never have known the ways it would bring us closer or the joy it would bring to our lives as we gathered around the television by ourselves or with our children – but it has been nothing short of a gift and I am thankful for it.

So here’s to another hundred years of magic, another hundred years of happily ever after, and another hundred years of Disney.
