“In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Laughs and adventures ensue as the greedy, bumbling butler pulls off the ultimate catnap caper in hopes of gaining the inheritance. Now it’s up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day.”
I’ve always been more of a cat person, so is it any wonder I’ve always loved this film more than ‘One Hundred and One Dalmatians’?
I mean this may not have one of the best villain songs of all time, hell it doesn’t even have a villain song. But it has one of Disney’s most recognizable songs, and the rest aren’t too shabby either.
Bob would tell you that this film was boring, and it probably is. He spent most of the time pretending to be a cowboy with a comb in his mouth, or trying to get me to stare at his feet – he gets very weird when movies bore him – but I don’t care, because this movie reinvigorated my hopes that we’ll get a cat and name it Thomas O’Malley.
I also want to name a cat Cosmic Creepus, and whatever that crows name was in Maleficent. I think our pet names are going to be Disney themed for awhile, much to Bob’s chagrin.
This movie is jazzy, and a little bit slow paced, but that’s alright. It’s cute, and light hearted and only a tiny bit racist in a way that we needed a warning about it before the film started, and man it’s been awhile since we’ve seen one of those. But I maintain that if you like the feel of ‘One Hundred and One Dalmatians’, the animation style, the easy story, then you’ll like this movie, and you’ll doubly more if you’re a cat person.
And since by this film’s logic, everybody wants to be a cat, everyone should love it just on principle.
