“Dr. Neil Hammerschlag and his team of researchers are setting off on a quest to learn more about this mysterious shark, as well as search for the most elusive of them all, the massive Great Hammerhead, a shark that can grow up to 20-ft in length and can weigh over 1,000 pounds.”
I love a good shark documentary. They don’t always happen when it comes to NatGeo documentaries, especially when they start churning them out for ‘Shark Week’, but I think this was either before ‘Shark Week’ was as big as it got or before NatGeo bought as deep into ‘Shark Week’.
Either way, I actually learned some new things about Great Hammerhead sharks. I didn’t know that there were several species of hammerhead sharks. I didn’t know that sharks had a line on either side of their body that allowed them to feel from a distance. I didn’t know lemon sharks were becoming as aggressive as they are. And I didn’t know that Great Hammerhead’s cephalofoil works better in warmer water.
May-Be Learn Some Shit Month is already turning out great for the amateur marine biologist in me.
It’s weird to have had two NatGeo documentaries in a row that do exactly what they say they’re going to do. We’re going to tell you specific things about these sharks, then we’re going to find these sharks, and then we’re going to tag one of these sharks. And all those things happens. It feels weird to not be leaving on an undecided mystery. Maybe my whole perception of NatGeo documentaries is wrong?
Well the month is still early. Let’s see how I feel by the end of it.
