“White sharks have been spotted across Canada as far north as the coast of Newfoundland. After the first suspected white shark attack in Canada for over 150 years, experts Greg Skomal, Heather Bowlby, Megan Winton & Warren Joyce, investigate what drives white shark’s journey to the very Northern limit of their range.”

This is a very good documentary which I had absolutely no interest in for reasons completely beyond my understanding. I love documentaries. I love documentaries about marine life. I love sharks. But this documentary did not grab me – at all.

Now maybe, that’s because it was chosen by our children, because if you’re going to do something an hour before bedtime during May-Be Learn Some Shit month, and while we’re trying to manage everyone not making a mess of our living room with popcorn, and asking questions like “why is it a white shark and not a great white shark?” and “why is that shark called a blue shark?” it’s hard to get heavily invested in to what the point of finding out whether or not white sharks are in Canada’s Atlantic waters (something I should care about much very much, as a Canadian).

Maybe, it’s because this documentary was well done. It was informative, and it got to the point. Real science was involved, and done well. There was no overly dramatic music or flash cuts. But that what makes the over produced NatGeo documentaries special. They’re cheesy and bad.

So if you’re in a better headspace than we were, and you want to enjoy a good shark documentary, definitely give this one a try.
