“Nick Fury, Director of the international peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D., finds himself in need of a team to pull the world back from the brink of disaster. The Avengers – Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor and Captain America – assemble alongside Black Widow and Hawkeye to battle an unexpected army: the Asgardian God Loki, who commands a powerful Chitauri army threatening global safety and security.”
We did it. We made it to ‘Marvel’s The Avengers’.
We honestly didn’t think we’d make it this month, and now we’re honestly just debating whether or not we want to continue into Superhero September. We’re not really close to any other “super” goal.
But we made it.
And having watched as much Marvel as we have, the build up that took over a year to get there, it was – as we both knew it would be – totally worth it.
When the Avengers theme plays, and the camera pans over all of our heroes, the ones we’ve gotten to know over the course of several movies, I still get chills, over a decade later. Even though I know how every single character’s story ends. Even though I know how annoyed I am with the current Marvel universe. The MCU could have stopped at that exact moment, and I would have been happy.
It definitely inspires you to continue watching the Marvel movies, to get to the next big meet up. And now that we’re in primarily the Disney Marvel era, I’m hoping there will be significantly less duds in our future, which can only make the marathon more enjoyable.
I can’t add anything to the discussion about The Avengers, at least not this movie. It’s a good movie. It redefined what we expected from superhero team up movies, much like Iron Man redefined the superhero genre. And you can’t do much better than that.
