“Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await Elsa as she ventures into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas beyond Arendelle? The answers are calling her but also threatening her kingdom. Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, she’ll face a dangerous but remarkable journey. In Frozen, Elsa feared her powers were too much for the world. In Frozen 2, she must hope they are enough.”
On Sunday we dared to watch the Superbowl with our daughter. This was, obviously a grievous and torturous mistake for which we should have had to prostrate ourselves for forgiveness. But we were lucky. Firstly, our team won. (Go Eagles!) Secondly, our daughter decided the appropriate punishment would be to watch the, as she calls it, Let It Go movie. I informed her of the existence of a sequel and then we were nagged constantly for an entire day as she stayed home sick and we tried to clean our house. But, it all worked out in then because we put on this movie, and she barely paid attention but we were no longer nagged.
This movie is not very good. Just being honest. It’s a really weak sequel. Elsa and Anna didn’t need to strengthen their sisterly bond, they already did that in the first film. And Elsa didn’t need to find her second place, because she’d already done that in the first one too. The relationship between Kristoff and Anna seems somehow weaker, despite the fact that his attempt to propose is a major plot point. Olaf is just off the entire film. And none of the new characters that are introduced are very memorable.
But, if you’re a little girl, whose attention this film can manage to hold, I could see why Anna and Elsa having new outfits would be a strong pull.
Even the songs are weak. Into the Unknown is probably the best one, but even then I prefer the version performed during the credits by Panic! At The Disco.
I really don’t have a lot to say about this film cause it was boring. We watched it to watch it, and to get our daughter off our backs (everyone who has a three year old understands that they run the house) and I have a feeling, based on her reaction, it’s not going to be one she’s immediately asking us to re-watch. And that is the true gift of this movie. I don’t have to watch it again.
